At the same time, as of 2021, citizens of the US can travel to 187 countries and territories, including 26 European member countries of the schengen area. This number strikes the imagination! But, it’s worth the wait, isn’t it?

So, what is the travel list 2021 for US residents? What countries can I visit visa free with a US Green Card?

US visa free travels

Canada

Everyone who has a Green Card in the United States can apply to this country, and the question of residentship won’t be an issue here. Besides, if you are traveling by airplane, an evisa is a must-have. It is notorious that electronic travel has many benefits, and you can obtain e visa at any time, traveling to free countries

Costa Rica

To visit this country, you need a Green Card, a passport, and a ticket, which shows that your stay would be no longer than 30 days. But, if you want to stick around for a bit longer (for 45 days60 days90 days (3 months), or even more, like 180 days (6 months)), you have to apply for an extended stay to be approved at the Office of Migration in Costa Rica.

Georgia

Like Costa Rica, you only need a Green Card, a passport, and an onward ticket. This helps you to stay for up to 90 days visa free.

Peru

Peru is one of the visa free countries for US, but this state is open for Chinese and Indian nationals. To visit this eye-catching destination, you have to present an onward flight ticket, a passport, and a Green Card.

Singapore

Singapore is also among visa free countries for US citizens and Green Card holders. However, an entry permit is issued to Indian and Chinese nationals only.

The British Virgin Islands

The British Virgin Islands is also on the list of US visa free countries. However, to enter this British Overseas Territory for up to 30 days, you need your passport, a Green Card, proof of accommodation in one of the islands, and a return ticket.

Belize

The US residentship gives you access to Belize, as the US Green Card gives access to many visa free countries. However, here you need to get the visa on arrival prior to approval from Belizean immigration.

Dominican Republic

The list of requirements includes a passport, a tourist card, and a Green Card. This state ranks among visa free countries for US permanent residents.

The only thing Green Card holders need to enter Jamaica is a passport, an onward ticket, and a Green Card. However, this does not apply to Taiwanese citizens with Green Card holders.

Aruba and Curaçao

You also have a visa free access to Bonaire, Saba, St Eustatius, and St Maarten, like any islands that make up the Dutch Caribbean. However, this does not include the European part of the Netherlands, as you need a Schengen Visa to enter this land even if you are a Green Card holder.

Entry regulations to Europe

There are many visa free travel countries for US citizens. In particular, citizens of the United States can travel to 26 EU countries for up to 90 days visa free. They don’t need to apply for a Schengen visa if they wish to go for business and travel purposes.

Things change when it comes to US residents, as the question of travel may depend on nationality.

These foreign nationals residing in the US on a temporary or permanent residence permit do not need a visa to enter Europe:

  1. Foreigners who have dual nationality, one of which is of an EU member country
  2. Foreign passport holders from countries, which have established the visa-free regime with the EU
  3. Foreigners who have dual nationality, one of which is of a country that has established the visa-free regime with the EU

This information is related to the population category which is required to obtain a visa:

  1. Foreigners from the countries that have not established a visa-free regime with the EU
  2. Foreigners from the countries that have not established a visa-free regime with the EU although were previously denied entry to the Schengen Area

  2. Proof of your US lawful permanent resident status  (like a valid Green Card)

When traveling by sea or land, you have to present your proof of status only.

Visa regulations in Great Britain

While US citizens do not need to apply for a visa to enter the UK for tourism or business purposesresidents of this country should obtain this document. To apply for a UK visa from the US, a person needs:

  1. Complete an online application
  2. Book and attend your biometric appointment at an ASC or VFS Premium Application Centre (PAC)
  3. Attend an ASC (on a scheduled date and time). You should take your current passport and a copy of your appointment confirmation letter there. The last one will be sent when you book an appointment. It is also important that you should not bring your family members or friends. The presence of attorneys and interpreters is allowed.
  4. Post your application. You’ll have only 5 days to post your application once your appointment confirmation letter is stamped. You need to attach a UPS return shipping label, an application form, a current passport with at least one blank visa page on both sides, and any supporting documents.

Rules for obtaining a visa to other countries

While 187 countries seem to be an enormous number, there are still countries not covered in the travel list for US residents or citizens. So what should you do if you would like to visit one of these countries? The only way is to contact the country’s consulate and flush out the details.

Passport validity, rules, period, and passport replacement

It is worth starting from the beginning that US passports are issued only to US citizens by birth or naturalization. Green Card holders can apply for US passports only in case they go through the process of becoming naturalized citizens of the United States.

For persons aged 16+, the US passport is valid for 10 years. It is important to bear in mind  — the time period for minors is lower, as the passport is valid for 5 years. In addition, one should not forget about the passport fees, which vary depending on the passport type and the time of processing you need. There are two types of passports you can choose from: the passport card and the passport book, and their prices differ.

As an example, one can note that adults aged 16 and older should pay two fees — an acceptance and an application fee. The prices (tax amount) float from $145 to $65 for the passport card and the passport book accordingly.

Child applicants should pay the same fees, but their cost is lower. The tax amount floats from $115 to $50 accordingly.

Important note: the time of processing varies depending on the time of year. The passport application fee and the execution fee are non-refundable.

A lost or stolen passport

It would be best if you revoked a lost or stolen passport at the earliest moment. This will reduce the risk of using your passport. To replace a lost or stolen passport, the person must either submit Form DS-11 online, call toll free at 1-877-487-2778 (TTY 1-888-874-7793), or use form DS-64 and mail it.

In case you are not in the US and noticed the loss or theft of your US passport, you need to contact your nearest U.S. Embassy.

Important note: once you have reported your passport lost or stolen, the State Department invalidates it, and this document cannot be used if it is found.

How to get permanent residence in the US

It is no secret that US residentship is hard to obtain. There are five fundamental ways to become a US citizen. These are citizenship by birth, citizenship through naturalization, citizenship through derivation, citizenship through acquisition, and Citizenship by Investment. Military service is not mentioned here, as this is a less popular option.

The chances to become a US resident can depend on many factors. In fact, it can take quite a long time. Hence it is worth paying attention to EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program. This type of official document is designated for foreign investors in American businesses. The past years have seen immense growth in the number of applications, as under the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, a person can get permanent resident status. Thus, further steps for those who want to apply for US citizenship are more straightforward.

The benefits of the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program are endless. Here are just a few of them:

  1. Lawful status in the U.S
  2. Quicker path to permanent residence and citizenship
  3. No visa sponsorship requirements
  4. Monetary return on investment in 5-7 years
  5. Visa-free international travel to and from the US
  6. You can reside anywhere through the Regional Center Pilot Program
  7. Quick application process
  8. Green Cards granted to the investor and their spouse and unmarried children under 21
  9. No requirements to a level of language, education, age, or work experience

To be eligible for citizenship, Green Card holders must have lived in the US for 5 years. They also must be able to read, write, and speak basic English and be physically present in the US for at least 30 months out of the five years prior to naturalization

Investment Options

To obtain an EB-5 visa, investors must know about these types of investing in real estate.

  1. project in a developed region (with a low unemployment rate) – $1,000,000
  2.  project in a rural region – $500,000

Important noteSince July 2021, the minimum investment was reduced to $500,000, while earlier, it was $900,000
