Over the past years, Europe and Turkey have had long negotiations on Turkey's accession to the EU. The prospects have been dim and for some time the whole process was put on the back burner. However, since 2020, relations have started to ease, so there is still hope that Turkey would join the European Union, which is a piece of good news for Turkish passport holders.
The power of the Turkish passport is proved by the fact that Turkey is an active member of many international organizations. As an example, one can note OECD, OSCE, Council of Europe, and NATO. So accession to European Union is the only way to fully tap this relation's full potential and increase the number of Turkey passport visa-free countries.
According to a recent survey, Turkish passport holders also believe that "people believe the EU's effectiveness for solving global problems compared to other countries or group of countries would lead to better results for humanity." Respondents believe that European Union is one of the closest partners in dealing with international matters and Turkey passport visa-free country.
"Turkey is a key strategic partner of the EU on issues such as migration, security, counter-terrorism, and the economy."
While considering all of the above, it is important to note that Turkey passport holders are not eligible for ETIAS, so those people who want to enter the European Union have several options to do so, as they do not have visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to all of the European countries:
- Turkish passport holders who want to visit just one country could apply for a national visa.
- Turkish passport holders who want to visit several countries in the European Union should apply for a Schengen visa. Unlike a national visa, a Schengen visa opens a door to as many Schengen countries as you can visit (considering also the visa validity period), so you can get a multiple entry visa for yourself or multiple entry visas for the whole of your family and enjoy traveling anywhere you wish.
In the beginning of 2022, Turkey announced that it would get visa-free access to 6 more countries of the European Union (Austria, Great Britain, Belgium, Poland, Netherlands, and Spain) for a Turkish passport. This is a clear sign of the government's intention to boom their tourist industry and increase the power of Turkish passport, making the lives of Turkish passport holders freer. And the future accession to the European Union will provide Turkish passport holders with visa-free access to many new countries in Europe and beyond.
